GROWER NOTES: >
The Lucas Columnar European Hornbeam is a narrow, upright, columnar hornbeam, narrower than the Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata'. Dark green foliage turns yellow-bronze in fall and lingers on the tree through most winters.
Hornbeams are natively an understory tree growing well in full or part shade in moist, organic, well-drained soils. They can thrive with as little as four hours of bright sun daily. Its adaptability to urban environments including clay and limestone, make this cultivar perfect for avenues or used as a hedge. It does not tolerate acidic or dry soils.
