Potentilla fruticosa 'Abbotswood' is commonly referred to as Abbotswood Potentilla or Shrubby Cinquefoil. It is a vigorous, dwarf, deciduous shrub with an upright habit and masses of large, white flowers that cover its bluish-green foliage from early spring to late fall.
Abbotswood Cinquefoil is very hardy and thrives in full sun in evenly moist, well-drained soils. It flowers best in full sun, but can tolerate some shade. It can be drought tolerant once established. It is disease and deer resistant and is perfect as a single specimen and in beds and borders.

While these shrubs are incredibly durable and heat-tolerant, they perform best and maintain the most prolific bloom production when grown in full sun. Ensure consistent water during the first season of establishment to support root development, though they become highly drought-tolerant once fully settled. Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead wood and encourage a compact, dense habit. These shrubs can become leggy over time, so cutting them back periodically helps maintain their vigor and shape. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the root zone to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, taking care to keep the material a few inches away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
