ILEX VER WINTER RED
Grower Notes:

Ilex verticillata 'Winter Red' is commonly referred to as Winter Red Winterberry or Swamp Winterberry 'Winter Red'. It features heavy fruit set and persistence and is notes for being one of the very best winterberries. This slow grower has a oval form with greenish-white flowers in late spring that are followed by cherry red berries from fall through winter which brighten winter's mood. Dark green, leathery leaves hold until fall when the real berry show takes over.

Winter Red Winterberry is a female plant that needs a male pollinator without range. Apollo or Southern Gentlemen Winterberry Hollies will do the trick as they are late male varieties. It thrives in full to part sun in rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It will not tolerate poorly drained soils. It is ideal for foundation plantings or along streams or ponds.
