Helleborus Frostkiss® 'Pippa's Purple' is a premium, highly innovative addition to the early spring garden, prized for solving the major aesthetic issues of older Lenten Rose varieties. Unlike traditional types whose flowers shyly nod downward toward the soil, this hybrid features exceptionally sturdy, upright, dark purple stems that hold its smoky purple-pink, burgundy-speckled blooms completely outward-facing so you can actually see them! The large, cup-shaped flowers persist for an extended period from late winter through mid-spring without dropping messy seeds. Even after the flowering window closes, 'Pippa's Purple' continues to earn its keep as a year-round structural anchor with thick, leathery, dark green evergreen foliage beautifully marbled with intricate silver-white veins and a subtle purple tint on the fresh emerging growth.
In terms of garden care, 'Pippa's Purple' develops into a tight, uniform, mounded footprint reaching 15 to 18 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide, making it highly manageable for woodland borders, shaded pathways, or early-season patio containers. The ideal spot for Pippa's Purple is a position in partial to full shade with rich, moist, well-draining soil that mimics a natural forest floor. It is highly adaptable to clay or loam provided the drainage is excellent, as it will not tolerate waterlogged roots, and it exhibits fantastic resistance to both deer and rabbits.
