DR SEUSS JAPANESE MAPLE
Acer palmatum 'Dr. Seuss' is a whimsical and rare upright Japanese Maple that perfectly lives up to its playful name with its unique, narrow, and deeply lobed foliage. The leaves are remarkably elongated and linear, often twisting or curving slightly to create a shaggy, animated appearance reminiscent of a character from a storybook. In spring, new growth emerges in soft shades of light green with subtle bronze or pinkish tints on the leaf margins. As the season progresses, the foliage matures to a crisp, vibrant green before finishing the year with a spectacular autumn display of brilliant oranges and glowing yellows. Its upright yet slightly irregular branching habit adds to its architectural charm, making it an excellent conversation piece for any landscape.
To maintain the health and sculptural form of 'Dr. Seuss' Japanese Maple, it is best planted in a location that receives morning sun and filtered afternoon shade, which protects its slender lobes from potential leaf scorch during the peak of summer. It thrives in well-draining, slightly acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and kept consistently moist. Like most Japanese Maples, it benefits from a layer of mulch to help regulate root temperatures and retain moisture throughout the growing season.
