GROWER NOTES: >
The Franklinia alatamaha is commonly known as the Franklin Tree. This unique and rare, single or multi-stemmed tree has cup-shaped, sweetly fragrant white flowers that bloom in late summer to early fall. Each flower has large yellow center stamens. Its narrow, glossy dark green leaves turn attractive shades of orange, red and purple in autumn.
The genus honors Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), distinguished statesman, printer and scientist. It enjoys partial sun in rich, moist, acidic, well-drained soils. It will not tolerate clay or dry-drought conditions.
