A dependable garden favorite. Masses of flowers in many different forms bloom in fall nearly covering the plants. Most every color imaginable is available. Garden mums look best in masses of single colors in borders and beds or in containers for portable color. Pinch back occasionally throughout summer for a brilliant fall display. Here are plant descriptions for the Garden Mums we generally carry.

MUM CARE |

Daisies or Singles mums have
daisy-like flowers with yellow centers. |
Fresh is what flowers are all about. Without freshness, there is no color or vibrancy. Fortunately, freshness takes just a few minutes a day to preserve with easy-care mums. Here are some guidelines to follow to ensure success: If garden mums have been sleeved or boxed for shipment, immediately remove from shipping boxes and take off sleeves. Check for water. If the root medium is dry to touch, water pots thoroughly. If practical, plants should be placed on a display structure rather than directly on pavement, which can heat up excessively during the day, injuring roots. Locate plants where they receive at least one-half day of sun. If sunlight is so intense that plants seem to dry and wilt most of the time, then plants may need to be given 25 to 30 percent shade. Since most garden mums are displayed outdoors, they often require frequent watering during the sunny, windy days of late summer and autumn. Check plants twice a day to be sure root medium remains moist to the touch. Each time a garden mum wilts its useful life may be decreased by three to five days. |
